Romania – Laurentiu Damian

Laurentiu Damian is Romanian film director and screenwriter; Professor Doctor of the UNATC (National University of Theatre and Film “I.L. Caragiale”, Bucharest); President of UCIN (Romanian Filmmakers Union); Laurentiu Damian is one of the leaders of his generation in documentary film. He worked as a film director for Sahia Studios for 10 years. His films, both fiction and documentary, were awarded with many national and international awards at prestigious film festivals.

Since 1991, he became a professor at UNATC, Film and TV Directing Department and Scriptwriting Department. Also, between 1997-2000, he sustained the course “The Art of Film Actor” at the Theatre Academy in Targu-Mures. Doctor Magna Cum Laudae in Cinematography and Media, his talent and professionalism brought him numerous proves of appreciation from his fellow artists.  Between the years 1990-1995 he was Secretary at UCIN and, in the mean time, 1993-1996, Artistic Manager of the Youth Film Festival in Costinesti. Laurentiu Damian was also the Coordinator of the Video Department at the International Fair in Hanover, 1997-2000. Starting 1998, he is Manager at the Ministry of Culture and Cults, Video Publishing House.

His writing activity naturally completes his work. General Manager at Cinema Magazine 2002-2003, Laurentiu Damian brought his contribution in cinematographic Romanian culture with 2 novels “Where are you, childhood? (Elisabeta Bostan)” and “About Documentary … even more”, short stories, studies of esthetics in cinema and over 600 articles on history and cinematographic esthetics. He also directed more than 100 documentary films, short films and features, as well as experimental films, for which he has received important awards.  One of his best known films is “Constantin Brancusi – Coloana sau lectia despre infinit / Constantin  Brancusi. His column – a lesson about infinity” (prize winner in Montreal). Laurentiu Damian was also redactor and presenter for cultural shows presented at Romanian National.
